About Melinda Dare Benfield
My passion for art came naturally from both sides of my family tree. However, most of my early inspiration and training came from my father who was gifted in many media. I also acquired a keen interest in history, anthropology, archaeology, and nature from my father. For me, art is a way of exploring the wide and diverse world and expressing myself within it. As a result, I work with a variety of media in a diverse number of styles, often simultaneously. Unfortunately, my curiosity and diverse interests often means that many pieces of art get left incomplete...or that I end up finishing pieces years after I began them. It also means that I have a tendency to dabble in experimental methods, materials, or subjects...

Quite a fine design !

Thank you so much Susan. I go through phases of what I'm inspired to do but I seem to keep coning back to the pen and ink.....probably I don't have space to do the brush and ink anymore.

I love the boldness of your black and white images ,Melinda. FAV

Your ink work is always interesting. It causes the eye to endlessly flow within and around the image.

Thank you Jay. Maybe the "frightening" part is why my nephew doesn't remember these now. As for the playing card idea, I did use them for a time on postcards for my high school students. If they did something particularly worthy of praise, I'd let them pick out a postcard, I'd write in the my comments, and then mail it home. Some students made it their mission to collect a complete set...although I don't think anyone ever did manage. LOL

Hi Melinda I may never look a cats in quite the same way again! I can imagine this on the back of playing cards. All of these drawings are frightening and beautiful for this viewer.

You have some very striking designs in your cat illustrations, they'd make great T shirt designs, there are many cat lovers out there! Nice work Melinda.

Ah, that's sad David. I would go nuts if my cat went missing. Your poor ex-wife.
David Cullen
This reminds me of my ex-wife's cat right before it turned up missing.
