Douglas Fromm
Sebastian Fromm was the first of my family to emigrate from Europe to America. In 1827 he settled in Hamilton as a clockmaker. Our family line almost ended when his only son’s entire family perished after boarding the boat on the bank below. The explosion was so great that body parts hit houses across the river. Sebastian was 55 but his wife was only 37, so they were able to have another son, who became my dad’s great grandfather.

Wow Douglas! I grew up here and am a bit of an amateur historian, but I had never heard of the Steamboat Moselle before. That view now takes on a different significance knowing that. Thank you.
